Review of the ShopBoss Management Software:

One viable option that we hear about often is none other than ShopBoss, which positions itself as the premium shop management software with high praise towards its ability to handle order forms alongside two-way communication between customers that aim to streamline work operations. Many owners that got a chance to use it apperciated how quick and easy it is to learn with ample features devoted for shopkeeping – usually, more than they’d realistically need although shops should still exercise caution and perform a feature checklist of everything they currently need as to ensure whether the base plan provides enough to meet their expectations.

Our Impressions of ShopBoss

For what it’s worth, ShopBoss includes the bare essentials necessary for proper management; repairs can be initiated and completed with relative ease however we couldn’t help but feel there are some drawbacks to keep in mind. Don’t get us wrong, it provides enough to accomodate most small-town shops however the basic Gold level plan can start to feel a bit limiting with more advanced features (i.e. inventory depth, backorder tracking, part return handling, customizable status labels, etc.) locked behind higher‑cost tiers.

For those who can’t absorb the exorbitant cost, we believe there are better options to consider. One huge problem is when it comes to staying compliant with the card brand rules and whilst there are provided options to add processing fees onto the payment transaction, this act of surcharging isn’t allowed by all states meaning a cash discount has to be imposed alternatively. As such, incorporating compliant dual-pricing with cash discount incentivizes customers to promptly pay in due time while cutting back on credit card fees as a result.

Final Thoughts

Overall, ShopBoss declares itself as strong contender in the auto repair shop management space. It’s all-in-one approach, ease of use, and downstream benefits in customer communication & workflow efficiency provides tremendous value, especially when compared to older desktop‑based systems or more traditional methods. But it isn’t without some shortcomings: reliance on stable internet (connection drop-outs), occasional glitches, and criticisms of customer support are often reported. But for the majority of independent shops, the feature set and cloud flexibility with an emphasis on stability / uptime make ShopBoss a compelling choice although the biggest complaint we have is with the absence of any cash discounting capabilities. There is no automatic calculation, it is to be applied just like any other discount when entering labor details on a repair order from within. It would be in the best interest of ShopBoss if they were to introduce a feature which allowed shops to toggle between payment methods in order to display both prices side-by-side, which is what Rate Remover does phenomenally well with in particular.

Why Dual Pricing Matters

The demand for this feature speaks to a broader trend in the industry. Shops are looking for ways to be more flexible and transparent with pricing, especially as costs rise and customers become more price-sensitive. Offering a cash discount isn’t just about saving on fees—it’s about giving customers more options and building trust.
